For this project we had to research any emerging technology, ideally aligning with our major or intended career field. While I have stated I want to be a professor on the homepage of this very website, I do have significant interest in exercise science. So, keeping my options open, I decided to research something sports related, as I am passionate about sports regardless of whichever career I may choose. Monologue aside, we then had to create a Power Point presenting our findings, and incorporating everything we learned about designing presentations throughout the course. We also had to utilize the notes feature as a script for our presentations. Finally, we had to present to the class.
I learned a lot about the NFL's new first down technology, "Hawk-Eye Innovations." This technology has been incorporated into other sports like baseball, basketball, tennis, cricket, etc. for a few years now. However, the NFL is just now incorporating the technology into their industry for this upcoming season. Hawk-Eye is a series of 8k cameras that are installed around a sporting venue, working together with advanced computer software to generate a 3D virtual model, allowing for precise analytics and pinpoint accuracy when determining situations in a game. It is so fascinating to me how a multibillion dollar industry has been using random old men to measure the ball during games for so long, and I look forward to the upcoming season with Hawk-Eye!
