I learned a new terms like "phishing," "whaling," and "pharming," which are methods of fraud called social engineering. Though, I was quite familiar with the term "ransomware", due to the BCPS ransomware attacks in 2020 that I was a part of as a student. I also learned there are way more examples of CyberSecurity threats than I had ever thought.
This article shares an incident when popular sports insider, Buster Olney, had his X account hacked, and used to report false sports news like trades, suspensions, and relocations. Hacking is when an unauthorized person is able to gain access to someone's account, in this case, Buster Olney. An insider is trusted with relaying information to the public directly from the source before other media companies are able to distribute it. So, someone gaining access and sharing false information is hazardous because Buster Olney is a trusted source, and it created a slippery slope of reporting false information across sports media. This could be prevented by strengthening security on the app, such as using a strong password, and turning on Two-factor authentication (2FA).

This article shares an incident where a ransomware attack was carried out against Genea, an Australian fertility service provider. The attackers accessed Genea's network and extracted over 940 gigabytes of data including personal information like names, addresses, medical records, and health insurance, though no banking or financial information was said to be affected. The attack impacted both employees and patients of Genea. A ransomware attack is when a malicious software encrypts a victims data and demands payment for its release.
