GPA is the average of all semester grades awarded credit by the State of Texas. Although correspondence courses meet the graduation requirements, grades from correspondence courses are not computed in the GPA. If a student wishes to repeat the same full year course previously taken and passed to strengthen knowledge or to improve the grade earned, she/he may do so within the next twelve months after completing the course. Although all grades are posted, credit is awarded one time only. The higher grade achieved, whether as a result of the first or second time the course was taken, is substituted for the lower grade and is used in calculating the student’s grade point average
Courses designated as Advanced Placement, Advanced Placement/Dual Credit, or Dual Enrollment (UT OnRamps) are weighted eight points per semester for the purpose of class ranking and grade point average only. Courses designated as Honors/Dual Credit, PreAdvanced placement/Dual Credit, Pre-Advanced Placement, Honors, are weighted five points per semester for the purpose of class ranking and grade point average only.
When a student changes course levels that results in a change of weighted points, points will be awarded based upon semesters completed. Students who transfer to Northside from other school districts will receive the above weighted points as delineated regardless of the weighted points they received from their previous school district. Weighted courses are shown as "H", "D", "Q", or "P" on the transcript.
Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated on a 100-point scale only. The Registrar can convert your GPA to a 4-point scale if your college or scholarship application requires it. Please contact the Registrar for additional information. Please note that 4-point GPA will not appear on your transcript.
Class Rank
All 9th-11th grade students will receive their GPA and class rank at the conclusion of each semester. The information will be included with the student’s report card.
Seniors receive two six-semester GPA and class ranks. The first comes in June with their final 11th grade report card. The second comes during the first week of October. The October GPA/Rank accounts for students who have transferred in and out of Brandeis over the summer, summer school grades and transcript corrections. Once the October GPA/rank is released, seniors can no longer use the June GPA/Rank as the October GPA/Rank is considered official.
Seniors receive their final GPA and class rank during the last week of January. The January rank is considered final and will be permanently placed on the student’s transcript.
I am new to BHS. How are my grades transferred for GPA purposes?
All grades are recorded numerically. The Northside ISD grading scale is as follows:
A = 90-100,
B = 80-89,
C = 75-79,
D = 70-74,
F = 69 and below
Transfer grades are recorded and given the numerical equivalent according to the grading scale of the previous school. If no grading scale is provided, the following scale will be used:
A+ = 98, A = 95, A- = 92
B+ = 88, B = 85, B- = 82
C+ = 79, C = 77, C- = 75
D+ = 74, D = 72, D- = 70
F = 69
