Students are encouraged to speak or email with me first to build confidence & independence.
If there is a concern I will e-mail first and follow up with a phone call.
Prioritizing the safety and well-being of my students is of utmost importance to me, paving the way for an empowering classroom climate that fosters curiosity and hones essential skills. My role as an educator is to orchestrate a shared curriculum-building process, foster impactful educational experiences, and guide students as they delve into personally meaningful projects. It's challenging work and I am here for each and every student to help them meet their potential!
If the student in your care is—
unexcused for five or more classes, or
is not submitting assignments, or
requires immediate attention/support
—then we will send a message home. I will likely reach out by email first and follow up with a phone call if I can't get in touch.
It may be impossible to "catch up," if a course is left unattended, so communication is key regarding your learning!
PowerSchool will be updated as assignments are assessed and scored, usually at least once bi-weekly. Sometimes my data entry is delayed by higher priority items, such as planning, meetings, etc. Please contact me directly if you require immediate feedback on a specific item. In addition contact me if anything is amiss or you are confused by feedback received on an assignment or entered into PowerSchool.
I expect the following in terms of attendance & work —
Class begins directly after the morning broadcast (or a couple minutes after the bell).
Attendance is taken each day and logged at the beginning of class.
Come in and get ready by checking the board or projector upon your arrival.
Pay attention to our weekly & daily schedules found on your course page (Google Classroom), course overview and at the front of the room.
The learning goals are on the board each day & in the weekly slides.
Stay on task in class. Breaks are understandable, but work must come first!
All submission deadlines are flexible, to a point. Please see the assessment page for further details. This policy is essential. Setting and meeting realistic deadlines help build skills for success inside and outside of school.
After this period of time is exhausted the resulting grade is zero. Extenuating circumstances are given additional consideration. In some circumstances alternative assessment methods are appropriate/encouraged, on a case by case basis.
Feedback is regularly entered on students work or in PowerSchool.
I will often provide feedback verbally during class. I will record any verbal feedback with Mote on Google-suite based assignments.
Please refer to these comments when students are seeking to improve their grades. In their assignments, journal reflections & responses on tests they must take this feedback into account.
The learning objectives are central to students journals. They should consider them when responding to the unit's journal entries.
For additional help have students ask in person or e-mail.
If the student in your care will miss a large chunk of time this year, please let me know as soon as possible. I ask this so I have time to properly adapt their activities and schedule, or make wider adjustments to assist the student.
