Assessment

Throughout the school year you will be "assessed," or graded on items you submit to Mr. Bragg (and Mr. Vroom). This is referred to as "assessment," which gauges your progress on key outcomes in your courses. This page helps you understand how you are assessed in these classes and provides the model for provincial policies regarding late work, which will be used this year.

Feedback

Feedback on all assignments must be taken into consideration for future assessments, or submissions of assignments.For our purposes in class feedback are conversations and feedback on your submissions to your teachers. The loop is related to time it takes to get feedback to you and for it to be implemented in future submissions for improvement in your grades.

Grading Breakdown

Grades are divided into "units" of study, or "modules," of study and are connected to a number of outcomes. Your grades are determined in connection to outcomes and are evidenced by your work.Each unit is worth a weight and is made up of sub categories. An example of this is grade 9 technology's "Fundamentals" unit. It's worth 20% of student's overall grade, but that percentage is broken down further into:

Module Assignments (20%) - the majority of your class work.
Digital Journal Entries (20%) - the majority of your reflective work.
Portfolio Update (20%) - a unit-based appraisal of your work with marked improvement
Profile Update (20%) - the development of a profile (inquiry and interest based)
Projects (20%) - summative assessments of your learning based on the entire unit of study

Alternative Assessment

Students can opt for an alternative assessment, given their interests and situation, in most cases. Some assignments are mandatory, but others can be met by demonstrating your understand in another way.An example of this is a student who is completing the grade 9 web design module assignments and decides they would rather focus on print media, such as a newsletter or e-zine. This is an acceptable alternative assessment as it can meet the outcomes connected to the unit. All outcomes must be met with the alternative assessment, as determined by the teacher(s).

Inquiry & Research

My approach is one that emphasizes inquiry. Take the time to learn about things that interest you in terms of technology but also: art, design, mechanics, philosophy, photography, dance, biology, robotics, or whatever inspires you. An example of this is a student who is completing the grade 9 web design module assignments and decides they would rather focus on print media, such as a newsletter, comic book strip or e-zine. This is an acceptable alternative assessment as it can meet the outcomes connected to the unit. All outcomes must be met.

Due Dates & Extensions

Get things in on time, but if you can't, e-mail me and let me know. If you're struggling with something in the course let me know and I can help and grant extensions.
