Demi Kouzounas is running for U.S. Senate as a Republican to represent Maine. She was born in Saco, Maine to Greek immigrant parents, and grew up working in her family’s restaurant. She was a first-generation college student and graduated from University of Maine Orono with a bachelor’s degree. She later earned a doctorate in dentistry from Tufts. Kouzounas served in the U.S. Army from 1981-84, then opened her own dental practice. She has taken an active role in public service missions providing dental care to low-income families and local communities. Her campaign emphasizes addressing the impacts of inflation and housing costs on working-class families in Maine. This is her first time running for public office.

"Angus King has been in office nearly 20 years, and if his solutions worked, Maine wouldn’t still be in a housing crisis. Now he wants us to believe he can fix the problem he’s been part of for decades. It’s time for fresh ideas—not more of the same tired talk from a Washington insider. Maine deserves real action, not just more Band-Aids from a career politician.”

Kouzounas has stated she would "prioritize affordable energy solutions" on her X account, and clarified that her critiques of current environmental policy "[aren't] about being anti-renewable energy. It’s about demanding leadership that balances environmental goals with the economic realities of everyday Mainers."

"I personally don't think guns kill people. People kill people. We have a mental health crisis we haven't addressed... We can be in a country like, I don't know, Russia or Israel, that doesn't have a lot of weapons. But still there's mass shootings. Because people that are law abiding will always follow the law. People who are mentally ill or not law abiding will not follow the law. We need to do better at really working with the laws in place to keep our society safer."
