Daniel Bourgeois seeks re-election in Moncton’s Ward 2
Daniel Bourgeois will try to represent Ward 2 again after the May 11 municipal elections.
First elected in 2008, Bourgeois is completing his third term on Moncton City Council.
“I love my city and I give back as much as I can. Serving on Council is my most important, rewarding and interesting contribution. I hope to serve another term. Moncton is going through growing pains, and I have the experience that will help us through it.”
Bourgeois is proud of his accomplishments since 2021. Among other things, he led the charge to reduce the property tax rate by 17.5%, add more RCMP and Bylaw Officers, adopt a crime reduction and prevention plan, transform the segregated housing developments into integrated neighbourhoods, build a seniors' centre, and add a regional park in the Vision Lands. He also initiated efforts to improve the snow removal system, the transit system and the democratic system
He seeks re-election because he loves to serve his fellow citizens and because there are a few initiatives he would like to launch at their request. “We must continue to improve public safety by adding more boots on the ground, but we must be strategic in our investments because that will not resolve all the issues. The Province must hire social workers to help us tackle these issues”, he explained. Among his other initiatives, Bourgeois wants to ensure the construction of a community centre in the Salisbury Road area. Also, he wants to make sure his initiatives in progress are successful, notably annual reductions to the tax rate, the regional park in Vision Lands and the improvements to the fire services. His most ambitious project is transforming the seven segregated developments: “It will provide integrated units to social assistance beneficiaries and it will create 2,000 affordable housing units by 2036 for our ‘working poor’ citizens and some for our homeless.”
Since 2008, Bourgeois has presided or sat on several committees and commissions, notably on crime, policing, social inclusion, urban planning, finance, snow removal and democracy.
Bourgeois is married to Anne Bernard-Bourgeois, an educator who assumed several positions in the Anglophone East School District, including Bessborough School. The couple have two adult sons, Alexandre and Jérémie, both living and working in Moncton.
