Through life-changing 4‑H and Future Farmers of America programs, youth complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and civic engagement in a positive environment, helping them grow into true leaders today and in life.
In addition to participating as a buyer in the Boulder County Junior Livestock Auction, there are several ways for you to support local youth.
Volunteer with the Livestock Sale Committee: Join us at The Moose Lodge in Longmont at 6:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month (except August and January).
Donate to the Livestock Sale Committee: Each year, the volunteer Sale Committee organizes the Junior Livestock Auction at the Boulder County Fair, allowing 4-H and FFA youth to showcase and sell the animals they've raised. The Committee funds the sale through donations and a commission on each animal sold. The more donations raised, the smaller commission charged to exhibiting youth.
Support a Livestock Department: Each Department is responsible for funding prizes for exhibitors at the Fair and hiring a judge. One of the toughest jobs of each Department Superintendent is to raise money for their department. You can donate to one of the specific departments or support them all in one donation.
Scholarship Fund: Each year the Sale Committee awards scholarships to graduating seniors, paid directly to the student’s choice of higher education. Click here to learn more about the Scholarship Program.
If you want to support a specific exhibitor but aren't interested in participating as a buyer, an add-on donation is an easy way to show your support. An add-on donation directly benefits the exhibitor with the tax benefits of supporting a nonprofit organization.
Donors can direct gifts to as many participants as they would like or even give a set amount for a whole species. For example, you could give Mary Jo $100 towards her swine project or donate $1,000 to all swine exhibitors to be divided equally.
Spread the Word about 4-H and FFA: 4-H and FFA effectively help youth develop critical life skills such as accepting responsibility, getting along with others, setting goals, decision making, and interpersonal skills. If you have a young person in your life, let them know about these critical programs.
4-H features programs in more than agriculture, including science, healthy living, and civic engagement. Boulder County 4-H programs begin at age five. Click to learn more about 4-H nationally.
Future Farmers of America is for students in grades 5 - 12 and college. Contact the St. Vrain Valley FFA at 720.494.3971 or find a chapter in your area.
Become a Volunteer: Volunteers are critical to the 4-H mission: A world where youth and adults learn, grow, and work together. Volunteers are the “heart” of 4-H, and their contributions can profoundly impact the lives of participants long after they reach adulthood. Learn more about volunteering in Boulder County here.
