The Little Red Hen

Puppet Time

Create puppets to use when retelling the story. Draw each character, cut it out, and place it on the end of a popsicle stick, straw, or pencil. Use the puppets to act the story out.

Jiffy Corn Bread

Jiffy Mix, 1 Egg , and 1/3 cup milk

Work together as a family to organize and discuss ingredients needed, and how you will mix them. Work together to mix the ingredients and place in the oven. Discuss how working together makes it easier on the group as a whole. After you take the bread out of the oven (set a timer and discuss time) and let it cool and share the bread with everyone!

Cooperation

Talk with your child about how we all have to work together unlike the characters in the story. Consider creating a job chart to use at home.

Artist in the Making

After reading Little Red Hen, families may work together to create their own drawing of the little red hen. Then discuss the question, “Would you help the little red hen if she asked?” Families will write each response below the artwork of a little red hen they created together.
