Expedition System

Please note that this is a very brief summary of BLBR's Expedition system! For a more in-depth look, feel free to check out our Expedition Information Document.

The Expedition system is an optional event system that's based on Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Expeditions employ a colour-based ranking system that denotes the risk that each expedition poses.

Players have no obligation to take part, especially considering the risk model of the system. Usually, Expeditions have a limited amount of slots available depending on the event, but there will always be more! Staff are focused on including and involving everyone, and make an effort to bring along volunteers that may have not participated in an Expedition recently.

Expeditions are handled similar to normal roleplay, with the added boon of the Expedition Master (usually Koby or Kendall) helping guide players through a specific plot, event, or storyline. Characters must roll to preform specific actions that require skills, and the success of their action is based on the outcome of those rolls (plus their ability score modifier, based on their stats). These rolls are specified by the Expedition Master - if you're ever unsure of what to roll, don't be afraid to ask!

During expeditions, communication is key. The Expedition Master will reach out to members, prompting them to explain what their character would do based on the situation at hand. Players are encouraged to communicate with each other and the Expedition Master. Your comfort is always our top priority - if you feel the Expedition is heading somewhere you're not comfortable with, you're always free to DM the Expedition Master and talk things out. Likewise, don't be afraid to get creative! The only limit during Expeditions is your creativity. And, of course, the will of the dice.

Expeditions make use of a character's character sheet, something that each player is given (per character) once that character is accepted into BLBR. It's built by staff, and players are given a chance to review and request any edits they'd like before the sheet is made final. On the sheet, you can expect to see your character's stats (including any modifiers) and health, as well as their defensive stat - which is the number that must be rolled in order for this character to take damage.

Characters also receive feats, special abilities unique to that character. If a character is under twenty moons, they receive only an active feat, which are activated upon choice of the player up to a specified number of times (meaning they are individual moves or abilities, such as a particular strike in combat that can be used twice in a single combat encounter). Once the character hits twenty moons, they are given a passive feat, which is a buff to a specific stat (such as a +6 medicine stat to a character who has gone through complete medical training). Passive feats are always active.
