Crafting & Foraging

Bones Like Bare Roots offers a way to encourage and display your character's creativity in the form of crafting and foraging! Every week, players are offered the opportunity to submit a ticket using the Spadesbot, and can choose to forage in either the forest or the city for items, use items in their inventory to craft something entirely new, or both!

Before we begin, I feel it's important to highlight the ticket system that BLBR has in place. Thanks to Kendall, the Spadesbot has the ability to create and manage private tickets, which can be used for a variety of things. The aforementioned crafting and foraging, of course, but also moderation (such as adding things to the blacklist or proposing potential ideas to staff), and plotting!

Tickets are entirely private, viewable only to staff and the person requesting the ticket. To this point, you can even request a Admin Only ticket, which will be viewable only to Koby and Kendall, as well as the person requesting it. When the ticket is completed and closed, the requestor will receive a copy of the ticket's transcript through a DM from the Spadesbot, and a copy of the transcript will also be logged in BLBR's logging channel (which is viewable only to admins).

A more detailed explanation of the ticket system is available in the BLBR server, and you are encouraged to reach out to staff if you ever have any questions. Now, onto crafting and foraging!

Crafting

Every week, players are invited to try their hand at crafting new items for their characters! We've had everything from clay crafts (like bricks and sculptures), to weapons (knives and traps), to items to assist in healing (herbal tea and a mortar and pestle).

Crafting tickets are handled mostly by Koby, and when you submit one you are given the opportunity to have your character search for applicable items if that's necessary to your craft.

Crafting utilizes the aptly named Crafting Stats, which are unique to each character! When submitting your character, remember to note any specific skills they may have when it comes to crafting, as there's a place on the form to put that information so we can adjust their stats accordingly!

The most prolific crafter is likely Snarl. Snarl has been crafting bricks from day one, with his skill steadily increasing. He's built enough bricks at this point to construct a wall at the entrance to the Green Cave, as well as a small pond area for his pet turtle!

Foraging

Alongside crafting, foraging is a weekly event that your character can perform! Some characters simply forage to assist in their crafting, while others tend to look for anything they can get their paws on and just keep them in a collection.

Foraging tickets are handled by Koby and Kendall, and when one is submitted you have the choice between foraging in the forest, or in the nearby city. What items you find are based on this selection! You can also specify if you are looking for something specific, or if your character is just looking for miscellaneous items.

Every character is given a foraging stat when their sheet is created. This stat falls under the intelligence heading, and will help buff your roll to see if you find what you're looking for or not!

A common use for foraging tickets is looking for herbs to bolster the Court's herb supplies. However, the character Crowsong could not be farther from this goal. He's become a bit of a hoarder with his foraging exploits, and has found some pretty interesting stuff! Because of Crowsong, Koby has had to include an inventory limit, by virtue of the sheer amount of stuff he was collecting. Some noteworthy things he's found are: Chicken Nuggets, a Swiss Army Knife, a Cracked Plastic Water Gun, and even a lunchbox full of money!

Tickets & Personal Plots

Another use for tickets besides the above are:

These don't have to be roleplayed, discussion can take place entirely OOC if that provides ease for players.

Tickets can be used for lots of things. Even if you have just a concept, staff will help you develop your idea into something tangible to work on. BLBR is free and open. You’re free to shape the world by participating in it--leave an NPC a threat, redecorate a huge portion of the cave (though it might take a few crafting tickets to do so), invent the catapult, the possibilities are truly endless.
