I moved all over the Midwest as a child, but returned to Indiana to attend Purdue University, receiving my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2004 and my Master of Science in Chemical Education in 2006.
I taught Integrated Chemistry and Physics, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Advanced Placement Chemistry at Avon High School for 10 years. There I focused on curriculum development, building problem-solving strategies with students, and helping gain access to science for all students.
During a few years away from the classroom, I worked as a private tutor and homeschool science event director, as well as diving into professional development and adult learning.
I returned to the classroom in 2019 at Brownsburg High School teaching Dual Credit and Advanced Placement Chemistry, just in time to learn first-hand all about hybrid instruction. I continue this hybrid instruction now as an online adjunct professor in Science at Ivy Tech Community College.
In 2023 I joined the Indiana Department of Education as a Secondary Science Specialist. In this role, I found my passion for integrating STEM learning across all content areas. I served on the team that wrote the 2023 Indiana Academic Standards in Integrated STEM. I coordinated programming between vendors and IDOE to implement the Indiana STEM Cadre, an ESSR-funded program to provide schools with highly-trained STEM instructional coaches. I also administered the Indiana STEM School Certification program evaluation team.
I am forever grateful to my family and love to see how STEM affects my daughter as she travels through her public school experiences, as well as my husband in his work as an engineer and an Indiana FIRST Robotics mentor.
