Golf course: Build log

Hi all,

This is the build log for my golf course in progress :d. So I made a prototype first:

This was definitely not the final build, but this was the guideline to what the final model would look like, and where the holes were.

I ordered an order the previous week to complete the prototype, and probably the final model :D

First I placed some green bricks and reddish brown log parts for the base, as well as a technic brick 1x2 for the moving axle to run through (for the people to spin on.

Then I got the mechanism working and running smoothly, then it was time for some basic golf landscaping, which had a drop in the middle. The third photo also shows the cut out for retrieving the ball, which was not finished yet

A flag and the ball-retrieving mechanism was added for the sake of the minifigures (and you). In the prototype there was no flags, but I though they made it more interesting and life-like.

I started to fiddle around with the rockwork beside the course, photo 1 didn't line up, how there were logs under the rock, so I tried replacing the logs with DBG bricks, but it looked to flat that I liked 1 better. Last one I tried, I just knew it was right. It really looked real and the embossed brick gave it away that it was man-made :P.

I had a break from the course mechanisms and made up some golf putters and flags with 4L bars and 1x1 plates with light attachments seems so I didn't have golf putters :(.

I tried some grass around the base at first, but it was a no-go, it looked way too overgrown, so then I tried none. It looked plain, so I put some grass near the rock and another little bit at the corner. Looked good.

Also if you didn't notice I tried grass on the other side of the drop, which I had rough, but to make it look like a mini golf course, I made it smooth.

Next, I tried the back of the cliff, which is very hard to stop looking from very plain so first I added some reinforcement slopes, but it wasn't enough. I started on another idea that wasn't photographed, but it didn't work so I stayed with the reinforcement slopes, and added something else.

I added embossed bricks and log bricks in DBG. That made it look better, then I had the idea: Plants on the wall. I stuck the two in the last photo, but the 3x4 leaf looked a little out of place, or moreso to overgrown and big for a mini golf course that gets maintained often. (see last part of hole 1)

Note: I really loved where the three leaved plant was added because when you spun the winder, it felt more like the winder wasn't really part of the moc, there was still as many details as anywhere else, it didn't affect them. Same with the reinforcement slopes close to the winder

Second mechanism working and some wooden work done.

These are some 2x2 fountain ideas I tried:

First the crystal, which I couldn't get to stand up so that was crossed off the list.

Then another crystal, worked good compared to using trans plates. So it will get used :-) d (d is a thumbs up)

Totally random, my shirt got caught in the trans-clear container, ARRRRGH

The 2-wide waterfall and some rockwork I did and used

The first photo it was going good, but you could be some yellow, so in the second photo it was removed. Also did some more water and cliff.

More cliff work and second waterfall that's for the ball to roll down because you hit it from the top, the ball goes down the waterfall and into the hole on the bottom green.

Bottom green in, because of the height I had to use a green 1x2 panel to let the golf ball through.

Next hole done :D

I placed a green 1x3 plate to make it look better and was onto finishing the creek for the next hole :)

Bridge ideas I tried, I went with the second one as it would be a challenge to get across the bridge without falling off :?

I got some reddish brown borders in, as well as the green before the bridge and the mechanism working :D

I faced trouble: the creek was one brick above the ground while the bridge was three. Still investigating how I can change the height of the bridge. These two photos show that I was going to use cliff for the slope, but decided that a rough, steep slope would be better for the job.

Hole 3 nearly finished, but I needed something that added details, I had to think.....

Hole 1. I'll take photo's with the camera when it's finished, this was just a sneak-peak.

Hole 2 ( I'll take photo's with the camera when it's finished, this was just a sneak-peak.)

Hole 4? Take better videos when done with the camera, this was just a sneak peak.

I felt like it wasn't as detailed as holes 1 and 2 so I made some improvements:

Pic. 1: I applied some green (man-made). BEEP BEEP! Too much. Maybe less...

Pic. 2 Only a green corner plate and grass stalk, looked a little too less, might as well be none.

Pic. 3 As always the medium amount worked :D. I was happy with the man-made grass, (but still wanted to add my favorite part to this hole...

Pic. 4: A Chameleon. You could make it a real one, or just a wooden carving, but this was adorable for the seen, a chameleon on the green, hehe

As I stopped laughing, I realised that there was something else I needed to fix: The corner. There is a little green and a half finished border back here. Not impressed, as that would be a photo ruiner :( . Some fixing I tried on the next photos :)

Started out like this:

Half finished borders cut, still I didn't like it.

Then I used some slopes to cut it into the green planning to add another layer of log bricks to it.

I didn't have enough green slopes (pretty poor right :P) so I ended up using a technic 1 1/2 pin and a cheese slope . The half pin is stuck in the back of a brick ;) Not the end though

Photo below shows a reddish brown slope replaced for the cheese slope setup, but it didn't work, TOO BAD.

Next layer of logs added and some RB cheese slopes Finished:D

Next hole is supposed to have a miniature castle Some ideas tried for the plume holding

The first ones the best, but I tried clips and the RB 1x1 brick round, which didn't look good. I think it's a 50/50 with the other two ideas.

First one was in the prototype, but it looked too plain. Lets see what we come up with...

Next I put a/some

  • "1x1 brick with stud on side" and a cheese slope for under the tower

  • "headlight brick" for the arch slip

Lastly I tried the villa on the wall like the Fortress of Gibeon:

I used jumper plates to jumper it out like an overhang and as you can see, I switched around the headlight, and sticking an RB flower part as a little wooden building on the side (see fortress of gibeon)

And the castle was done. I got so absorbed in it that I forgot I was building the golf course :o

Here is the final:

So part 1 is done link to part 2 of the golf course build log
