School Health and Safety Protocols

These guidelines are based on recommendations and requirements provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Governor of Texas and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and will be updated as new guidelines are available.

General Health and Safety Protocols

  • Campus staff will be trained in COVID-19 safety protocols.

  • Safety signage will be added and visible throughout school facilities.

  • Social distancing will be implemented when feasible.

  • Outside visitors and parents are welcome in the front office areas but will not be allowed to enter the student areas of the school building during the first nine weeks.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Face Coverings and Social Distancing

  • Parents are encouraged to provide a face covering for their child that the child is comfortable wearing. Brownsboro ISD will provide face coverings for students in the event they forget to bring one while supplies last.

  • Brownsboro ISD will provide face coverings and face shields for all staff members.

  • At this time, based on the Governor's Executive order, all staff, students (10 years of age and older) and visitors must wear a face covering in all BISD facilities.

  • All students regardless of age are required to wear a mask on BISD school buses.

  • At school, students and staff will be encouraged to practice social distancing.

Pre-Screening for Staff and Students

  • Staff and students are expected to take their own temperature daily before arriving at school. Anyone with a fever of 100 degrees or higher should not come to school or any BISD facility.

  • Staff and students should also prescreen themselves daily for any of the following symptoms prior to coming to school and complete the daily online screener in Skyward:

      • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit

      • Loss of taste or smell

      • Cough

      • Shortness of breath

      • Headache

      • Chills

      • Sore throat

      • Muscle aches

      • Diarrhea

      • Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school if the child has COVID-19 symptoms (as listed above) or is lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and instead should opt to receive virtual instruction until the conditions for re-entry are met. Parents may also opt to have their students receive remote instruction if their child has had close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed with COVID-19 until the 14-day incubation period has passed.

Sanitation and Prevention

  • Students and staff will be trained in proper hand washing protocols to prevent the spread of germs

  • Students, staff and visitors will be encouraged to sanitize and/or wash hands frequently.

  • Elementary students will engage in supervised handwashing for at least 20 seconds at least two times each day, in addition ti being encouraged to wash hands after using the restroom and before eating.

School Health Clinic Procedures

  • Minor health needs will be handled in the classroom in order to reserve the nurse's office for more severe needs

  • School nurses will be trained in COVID-19 safety and cleaning protocols

  • Health clinics will be cleaned and sanitized at least twice a day

NOTE: Parents selecting the face to face instructional model, will have the option to move their child to the virtual model at any point during the nine weeks but must remain in the virtual model until the end of the nine weeks.
