Imagine you have brown eyes, and both of your parents also have brown eyes. The reason you likely have brown eyes is that your parents passed on the gene for brown eyes to you through heredity.
Sometimes, you might also inherit traits from your grandparents or other relatives, even if your parents don't show them directly.
