We've made hundreds of Lightning Swords at our Big Sky Build It! summer program and here's what we learned:

Students as young as 7 can make one with full time assistance from an adult skilled at soldering and basic tool use.
Follow the instructions exactly. Incorrectly placed components often result in permanent damage and a circuit that "let's out it's magic smoke."
