Levitating Wand

Make an electrostatic wand that actually levitates objects!

Age: Independent 10+ - With Adult 7+*

Build Time: +- 10 hours

Skills Learned: measuring. sawing, drilling, soldering, hot gluing, nuts/bolts

Tools Required: adjustable wrench, CD label jig, hand drill with 3/16” bit, drill board, ½” hot glue gun, scissors, hobby miter saw, pencil, phillips screwdriver, ruler, soldering setup, 120 grit sandpaper, safety glasses, gloves, fan

We've made hundreds of Lev Wands at our Build It! summer program and here's what we learned:

Students as young as 7 can make one with full time assistance from an adult skilled at soldering and basic tool use.
A great workout in fractions and measurement.
There's nothing close to the feeling of levitating objects with a device you made yourself.
