I just recently started participating in this program at the beginning of this school year. I go to Roxboro Elementary every Monday from 3:00 to 4:00. In the first few months, I was placed with a group of 4 students. We typically work in the library but on nice days we try to go outside. Some days we work on school work they are given by teachers, and others we play games together. We mostly work on math with multiplication, and english with reading comprehension. Just about a month ago we were places with our "littles" which is just the younger students. I received two boys, one was in my previous group the other was new. They both are amazing. They are so involved in the work they do and are always so happy. Mondays are tough for everyone yet they brighten my day. On our most recent day together we had to create our own story using Dr. Suess's characters. This project we did together enhances their creative writing capability which is amazing to help prepare them for high school. They created entire stories and drew them out each just from their imagination. One week in February we learned all about Black History Month and I helped the kids learn so much about many historical figures. All the kids there have grown bonds with one another due to learning and working together every Monday. It has become an amazing comfortable environment for everyone in just the months of the school year.
