Brighton High School auditions are open to all interested students. None of our shows are precast.
WHAT TO EXPECT: When you arrive, you will sign in. We'll review your Application to Audition and the conflict calendar that you filled out online. Your picture will be taken.
Auditions will be closed – no observers will be permitted, other than your peers who are also auditioning. Parents, friends, siblings, etc. are not allowed in the auditorium or backstage during auditions, unless they are former students who have specifically been appointed to help run the auditions. Potential cast members' cell phones and cameras must be put away during auditions. Strict confidentiality will be expected of all students auditioning.
We know some people find auditions intimidating or scary. While we can't guarantee you won't be nervous, we do promise we are rooting for you!
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Team players who are ready to collaborate, bust through comfort zones, and build their skill set! It is important that our actors are willing and able to make adjustments (AKA be directable). Previous stage experience, while helpful, is not necessary to audition. We are also on the lookout for POTENTIAL. Almost all BHS productions include actors appearing on stage for the first time.
Please note: the cast and crew are an ensemble. As such, our space is supportive and kind and respectful. That expectation starts the moment you enter our space. "Everything is an audition."
WHAT TO WEAR: Please wear comfortable clothes that you feel your best in! Make sure that what you wear does not hinder your ability to participate (ie getting up and down from the floor, group activities, movement, etc.). Closed-toe shoes are required, such as dance shoes or tennis shoes. DO NOT COME IN SOCKS, BARE FEET, OR SHOES THAT WILL EASILY FALL OFF YOUR FEET.
WHAT TO BRING:
1. Closed-toe shoes and modest but flexible clothes to move in (no flip flops, crocs, etc.)
2. Homework to be completed during down time, in the hallway behind the BCPA and drama room.
3. Snacks to be eaten during down time, in the hallway behind the BCPA (not in the theater itself).
4. Your positive energy and can-do attitude! We want to see that you are kind, a team player, and have a positive attitude.
WHAT'S NEXT? Fill out the audition form and conflict calendar, if you haven't already! Show up, commit to your acting choices, be flexible, get out of your own way, and HAVE FUN! Show us what you can do. Can't wait to see you. =)
