BHHS BLACK HAWKS FORENSICS TEAM NEWS – 11/13/24
Congratulations on successfully joining the 2024-2025 Bloomfield Hills Forensics Team On behalf of team Leadership I welcome you to another great season of competitive speech activities.
Initial category placements for the season have been posted on the Team Roster page. New students AND veterans should read this information thoroughly as some concepts and procedures will have changed from previous seasons.
What’s next?
If you haven’t already you need to have your parents complete the Parental Consent Form asap.
Our first full in-person team meeting will be Monday, December 2nd from 3:00pm-3:30pm. Meetings will take place weekly while school is in session EVERY Monday at that time through May. Weekly Monday team meetings are the MOST important time for our program and attendance is expected. Frequent/nconsistent/unreported absences will be noted very unfavorably!
Between now and then each category will have ‘homework’ assignments to complete in preparation for the upcoming season. These deadlines indicate where you should be in the coming 8-10 weeks before the tournaments start. They are strong *guidelines* to monitor which will to let you know if you are ahead or behind where you should be. Our firm goal is for ALL students to compete in at least one of the first two tournaments!
Interp or Scripted PA (Info/Oratory/Sales) Basic deadlines:
1) Before Thanksgiving all event placements must be finalized. Many factors were taken into consideration in filling out the current roster. If you have concerns or questions about your current category SPEAK NOW. We do have a plan.
2) Before late December/Holiday break begins all base material should be selected and approved by me or Becca.
a. Info/Sales/Oratory topics should be finalized/approved.
b. Interp themes and/or sources should be selected/approved.
3) Before we return to school in January all Interp scripts should be assembled and cut down within their category time limits.
4) Before your first tournament you should be memorized (or close to it).
5) All Interp/Scripted PA students should plan to compete at the Punxatourney tournament on 01/25 and/or the Birch Run tournament on 02/08.
Limited Prep (Broadcasting/Extemp(s)/Impromptu/(Duo Commentary) Basic deadlines:
1) After Thanksgiving – all LP students should start attending the group category meetings/practices. These will be held weekly on TUESDAYS from 3:00pm-5:30pm in the Model Center.
2) Before December/Holiday break –Online digital file tub system should be in place for students to use and add to for research topics and articles. all LP students should have presented at least 2-3 practice speeches for a coach.
3) Over December Break – Base online/digital tubs should be completed.
4) All Limited Prep students should plan to compete at the Punxatourney tournament on 01/25 and/or the Birch Run tournament on 02/08
