What is Forensics?
We are NOT an anatomy/science crime club. We are a public speaking and speech/literature performance team!
The Bloomfield Hills Forensics Team competes on the Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association series (http://www.themifa.org) in 14 different categories of public speaking and acting/performance events including:
Media Broadcasting, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Commentary, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Informative Speaking, Multiple Interpretation, Original Oratory, Poetry Interpretation, Program Oral Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, Sales Presentation, and Children's Storytelling
Through public performance and adjudicated speech tournaments the BHHS Forensics Team teaches and develops communication skills that can benefit students in all aspects of academic, personal, and professional pursuits.
Please contact the Director (@zcompagnari@bloomfield.org) with any questions or for more information.
By Definition:
The term "forensic" is derived from the Greek Language and refers to courts of law
Aristotle, divided speech into three categories:
• forensic speaking (in a court of law)
• deliberative speaking (in the legislative assembly)
• epideictic speaking (in a ceremony or other special occasion)
For example, a physician who specializes in the study of medicine in relation to the determination of legal questions is said to practice forensic medicine.
In common usage today, the term has developed a broader meaning.
A modern dictionary defines forensic as an adjective meaning "suitable for public speaking or debate." In many parts of the United States, the plural forensics is used to refer to any extracurricular speech activity in both high school and college.
