Books that are not returned after a 90 day period are considered lost. After this period a patron is responsible for the replacement cost of the book. If the book is found and returned after the fee is paid, the fee will be reimbursed to the patron, within the given year.
Compassionate Overdue Policy:
At times there are extenuating circumstances that may prevent a patron from making a payment on a lost book(s). These circumstances will be looked at on a case by case basis. The patron must contact the school librarian, Mrs. Chich, at 410-887-0919 or nchich@bcps.org if they need to arrange an alternative to paying the lost book fee. If it is determined that a fine for a lost book cannot be paid, a student can work off their fee in one of the following ways:
Working off the debt by helping the media specialist with tasks in the media center, such as
Sharpening pencils
Restocking media supplies (crayons, erasers, pencils, markers, paper)
Tidying up the media center
Re shelving books (4th and 5th graders)
Organizing books on the "shelving carts"
A student could choose a "Read Down your Fine" option as well.
Borrowers lose $1 of fines for each 15 minutes they read a book, magazine, newspaper, database, ebook, Web site or audiobook. Students will use the form shown on this page to keep up with their reading time. This form will be provided by your media specialist. The student, the parent, and the media specialist will work out a time(s) for the to the student to come to the library for their "Read down your fine"
