How many books can we check out?

o Kindergarten may check out 1 book

o 1^st and 2^nd grade may check out 2 books

o 3^rd, 4^th, and 4^th may check out 3 books

When are books due back?

o 1 week for picture books

o 2 weeks for chapter books

o You can renew a chapter book 1 time for another two week increment.

What if my books are late?

It’s okay if they are late. Mistakes happen and it is okay if you forget your book at home. Just remember that there are other students want to read the book you have, so please bring it back as soon as you are done reading it. The best way to remember your library book is to always keep it in your backpack unless you are reading it.

Will I have to pay for lost or late books?

Late books:

The policy for late books is if the book is not returned after three months, parents will be charged the amount of the book (usually between $10-15). However, it is found later and returned in good condition (within the same school year), money will be refunded to parents.

Lost or damaged books:

Students will have to pay for lost or damaged book. The price is determined by the age of the book. It will range from $5 to $15. No more than $15 will be charged.

What if my parents can’t pay for the book?

Students will have the option to work off their library fine instead of paying for it. They can help out in the library, one hour for every $5 they owe. The student, parent, and librarian can work this out. (Ways they can help is by shelving books, putting genre stickers on books, fixing book covers, sharpening pencils, or wiping down tables. Another option is an older student may come in and read to a primary class in the library or be a library helper for a 1^st or 2^nd grade class.

How long can teachers check out books?

Teachers and staff have unlimited borrowing capacity. Books may be checked out for extended periods of time for classroom use.

What if I don’t like the book I am reading?

You may return the book anytime you want! You can turn it in right after you check it out, or any morning or afternoon Monday through Friday. You don’t have to wait for your library day to return your book.

When can I check out a book?

· Students may check out books during their library class

· Before school begins from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.

· After school from 2:50-3:10 p.m.
