Books are chosen to support the Baltimore County Public School Curriculum.
Books must meet the educational needs of the students within that school.
A media specialist must choose a wide variety of books that will serve all students needs, based on interest levels, age, culture, gender, race, religion, and place of origin.
Books must be age appropriate.
The media specialist must consider the requests of the staff and students.
Any material considered must be up to date and in good working condition.
Materials must reflect the philosophy and goals of the school system
Media specialists must select materials with diverse points of view.
Picks materials that will foster critical thinking skills.
The library media specialist is in charge of book selection for our library. Decisions are made based on curriculum needs and personal interests of the students and staff. Materials for Baltimore County Public Schools needs to meet the following requirements. The following is the approval process taken directly from the BCPS Library Wiki Page:
Received two or more favorable evaluations from established review journals.
Must be purchased from TitleWave
Must be Follett Bound or Sewn and only Hardback when Follett Bound or Sewn are not available.
Must be age appropriate.
No soft covers at any times.
No pre-ordering books not yet published.
15% of order must be eBooks.
