Dear Betty Sutherland Stewards,

Yesterday, on World Environment Day, we had 7 volunteers getting rid of 4 bags of litter and invasive plants! We also made some observations of native plants like goldenrods and raspberries.

Mario, Kenton and I worked to remove primarily garlic mustard, while Gary, Geri, Patrick and David worked on garlic mustard as well as buckthorns and dog strangling vines continuing at the south end, and moving further into the forest section of the site. Special thanks to David, a local pharmacist who joined us for the first time yesterday! We also checked on and cut down the Japanese knotweed patch, and examined some of its defining characteristics.

Gary and I also took a closer look at some other invasive plants that we may start removing soon: wood avens and hedge parsley. Since we have limited knowledge of these plants, we will be seeking some assistance to confirm their ID. If you have any knowledge of these plants, we would love your assistance. We also encourage you to continue checking out and adding to the iNaturalist project whenever you steward with us.

Gary is running the next event on Friday, June 10th (see google calendar invite). In the meantime, check out the photos from our past events here, and feel free to add your own!
