Hello Betty Sutherland Stewardship Volunteers:

We are back this weekend to maintain the awesome progress we've made so far!

Last week:

Just to recap, the Dog Strangling Vines (DSV) we pulled have partially returned as smaller plans, and we managed to remove a lot of wood avens and hedge parsley over the last few weeks. We did not have an official event this past weekend, however Gary, Geri and Marlene continued clipping and removing garlic mustard plants, DSV, and invasive wood avens. Mario and I clipped the japanese knotweed which looked much smaller than when we went out in the spring! We also did a bit of clipping of DSV and pulled out some hedge parsley as well. Pictures from our work can be seen below, as well as checking out our photos folder here.

Yesterday, myself, Gary and Anna Meng from the Toronto Nature Stewards team, went in to set up our first official monitoring plot. The goal of this plot is to have a detailed record in order to better report and monitor our progress, and quantify our impact. Within the 10x10m plot, we identified several types of plants (native and invasive) and determined their density. Anna also showed us how we can set up photo points, so Gary and I learned a lot. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Anna!

I have created a simple site to keep track of our past and current events with a calendar, photo highlights, and email updates. You can check it out here.
