BetStop registration is completed on the official BetStop service, not on this website and not inside a bookmaker account. Before starting, the usual friction is practical: phone access, email access, an accepted ID document, and a duration you are prepared to live with.
The duration matters more than the five-minute estimate. The current minimum is three months. During that opening period the ordinary early-cancellation route is not available. Treat the chosen period as a commitment with a formal exit process later, not as a toggle in an app.
BetStopInfo cannot register you, check your ID or confirm that a particular document will be accepted.
What should happen after confirmation — open apps, leftover balances, pending bets — is on What Happens When You Sign Up for BetStop. This page stays with the hour before you submit the form.
People treat registration as a short admin task. The form is short. The period is not.
Three months is the current minimum. It is also the window in which the ordinary early-cancellation application is unavailable. Choosing three months because it “feels reversible” is the opposite of how the opening window works. Choosing lifetime because it “sounds more serious” is a different commitment again. Neither choice is a setting you flip in a betting app the next morning.
A useful pre-form question is not “can I finish this in five minutes?” It is “am I prepared to live with this duration if Monday is harder than Sunday night?”
If the answer is not yet, do not use this page as pressure. Use the support numbers in the footer. Registration is optional. It is also not a casual preference.
Why it is needed — our reading
BetStop uses it for the account and messages. A number you no longer use is a matching problem later, not a privacy win.
Confirmation and later notices go there. Anyone with inbox access may infer that you registered. Shared inboxes are part of the decision.
The register has to match you against customer records held by providers. Anonymous exclusion cannot be matched.
Include numbers and emails you have used with wagering providers, not only the “clean” ones you prefer to show.
You choose the duration during registration. Decide it before the form, not in the last dropdown.
Optional, and only with that person’s consent. They receive notices. They do not register you.
Standard documents listed by BetStop are an Australian driver licence, Australian passport or Medicare card. People without those can contact BetStop on 1800 238 786. That number is an Official BetStop contact, not BetStopInfo.
These are not official error codes. They are the practical snags this page exists to name.
Matching compares records. A brand-new address can be tidy and still be a poor match to the accounts you want closed.
Same problem. Providers hold the number you used when you opened the account, not the number you bought for this form.
A partner, parent, friend, counsellor or wagering provider can encourage you. They cannot complete ordinary national registration for you. A form submitted in your name by someone else is not a kindness that BetStopInfo can bless.
“Three months, just in case” and “lifetime, so I cannot back out tonight” are both period choices with different exits. Make the choice as a duration, not as a feeling.
Another adult cannot put you on the National Self-Exclusion Register through the ordinary process.
BetStop’s own terms require the person to be ordinarily resident in Australia, to provide the required information and to complete identity verification. The person must register themselves.
State venue exclusions, app-level cool-offs and a bookmaker’s internal self-exclusion are different tools. None of them enrols you in BetStop automatically. Do not assume a pub ban or a 48-hour app lock has already done this job.
Official service — because a bookmaker cannot put you on the national register.
Personal details — because providers match you by the data they already hold.
ID — because anonymous exclusion cannot be matched.
Period — because the first three months are not reversible by the ordinary route.
Support people — optional; they get notices, they do not register you.
Confirmation email — the process is finished only when this exists, not when the form is submitted.
Submitting the form is not the same event as being registered. The working test on this page is the confirmation email.
If the email has not arrived, the person is still in the official process, not on a BetStopInfo waiting list. We cannot see the record. We cannot nudge it.
If the email has arrived, the first-week questions move to the Home page: can a new bet be placed; is a leftover balance a refund in progress; is a still-open app only an icon.
Up to five people can be nominated, with consent.
A support person may be told when an early-cancellation attempt starts, when a period is extended, when a time-limited exclusion is due to end, or when they are removed from the role. That is the job. It is not a second login and it is not a power of attorney over the register.
Do not nominate someone to “keep you honest” if you have not told them. The notice is part of the design.
If the period feels like a dare, if someone else is holding the phone, or if the only goal is to make a family argument stop for the evening, pause. Use Gambling Helpline 1800 858 858. If someone is in immediate danger, call 000.
BetStop can be the right tool on a different day. This page is not a countdown.
