BetStop currently lets a person choose a period from three months through to lifetime. Three months is not only the shortest menu option. It is also the opening window in which the ordinary early-cancellation application is unavailable.
After that window, early cancellation is still not a same-day switch. Submitting an application is not the same as already being removed. If a valid application is accepted under the current process, removal happens after seven days and the application can be withdrawn in that time. Extending an active exclusion is a separate action and can be done before the end date.
This page is only about time after registration already exists. Coverage, leftover balances and still-open apps are on What Happens When You Sign Up for BetStop.
Extend.
You can lengthen an active exclusion before it ends. You do not have to wait until the last day. Extending is not “starting again from zero” in the sense of a new first-time registration. It is a decision about more time while the current status is still on.
Expiry.
If the period is not extended, BetStop removes the person when the selected period finishes, overnight at the end of the final day. Official material says BetStop contacts the person before a time-limited exclusion is due to expire. That notice is not a restore of old accounts.
Early cancel.
Not during the first three months. Not a same-day switch after that. Application and removal are two different moments. A valid application that is accepted under the current process leads to removal after seven days. The application can be withdrawn in that week.
Registration → First 3 months: ordinary early cancel unavailable → After 3 months: an application may become possible → Before expiry: extend or let it end
People pick three months because it looks like the smallest commitment. The official minimum is also a lock on the ordinary exit.
Read it this way: the shortest menu option is the option with no ordinary early-cancellation application. That is not a trick. It is how the current framework stops a registration from being a bad night’s impulse with a morning undo.
If you need a cooling-off that lasts until tomorrow, BetStop’s national period menu is the wrong instrument. If you need a commitment that will still be there next month, three months is a real period, not a sample.
This is the confusion this page exists to name.
A person can become eligible to apply, complete an application, and still be registered the same afternoon. Under the current process, accepted early cancellation runs a seven-day wait. During that wait the person can pull the application back.
Treat the week as part of the process, not as a delay tacked on by a website. If a page — including this one — ever sounds as if “submit” equals “already off the register,” ignore that reading.
Ending a time-limited exclusion changes your status on the register. It does not rebuild the wagering accounts that were closed because of BetStop.
If you later want an account with a covered provider, that is a new decision after you are no longer registered — not an automatic restore.
This matters for planning. “I will just wait it out and use the same logins” is not how closure works. The Home page table stays true at the end of a period: the old BetStop-closed account does not simply reactivate.
Lifetime sits on the same menu as three months. It is not a badge and it is not a metaphor. It is a duration choice with a different exit story.
Do not choose lifetime because a family argument peaked tonight and three months felt “not serious enough.” Do not avoid lifetime only because the word is heavy if the actual intention is “I do not want an ordinary exit.” The form does not know the argument. It only knows the period.
If support people were nominated with consent, they may be notified when an early-cancellation attempt starts, when a period is extended, when a time-limited exclusion is due to end, or when they are removed from the role.
They cannot cancel for you. They cannot extend for you. They cannot reopen an account when a period ends. The notices exist so the isolation of the decision is not total. They are not a second set of controls.
The early-cancellation process described here is the process operating in September 2026. Amendments scheduled to commence on 1 January 2027 are not treated as current law on this page.
Already enacted is not the same as already in force. If you are reading after that commencement date, prefer the official source until this page shows a new fact-check date.
