SAP HCM (Human Capital Management), often just called SAP HR, is the on-premise HR module of SAP ERP. It stores the master record for every employee and runs the processes that depend on it: organisational structures, hiring and personnel actions, working-time and leave tracking, and, most importantly, payroll. Many large employers, public-sector bodies and manufacturing groups still pay their staff through SAP HCM, and SAP continues to support it within S/4HANA landscapes.
Payroll is the part that makes HCM specialists valuable. Calculating gross-to-net pay, statutory deductions and tax for each country requires detailed configuration, and companies need people who understand both the rules and the system.
Who should learn SAP HCM?
