SHAH ALAM - To fulfil the free time after her diploma studies, a young student decided to start her own small business called LushPiNS, which invented earrings for hijabis.

LushPiNS is a new creation specially made where earrings and needles are combined. The hooks of the earrings are converted to the needles and resulting LushPiNS.

Nur Fartini Zamri, 24, was inspired to start a pinrings business during her graduation ceremony.

During that day, she made a pinring to replace the usual hijab brooch that she used as an earring on her hijab to keep her comfortable throughout the day.

LushPiNS also began when Fartini and her siblings’ earrings drew the attention of her family during the Eid-al-Fitr celebration.

When her family recognised her potential, they encouraged Fartini to start her own accessories business.

Her business operated mainly in her room with just a small space.

She stated that one of her main motivations for starting the business is her mother, so Fartini named the brand after her mother.

“The name was chosen following a brainstorming session with me and my mother. We took turns pointing out names, and 'LushPiNS' came out from my mother,” said Fartini during an interview with Berita DIMENSi via WhatsApp.

Like any other small business owner, Fartini has to manage everything on her own, including product photoshoots, and sometimes seeks assistance from her family.

Fartini also revealed that she began photographing her sister on the balcony with a white backdrop. She explained that she was dissatisfied with the first result because it was too simple.

Then she did her second photoshoot, with the main goal of focusing more on the product. The earrings were the first thing she wanted people to notice.

“I need to cut costs on everything since I do not have enough money to hire a model or do a professional shoot so I bought a blue manila card that matched the theme and used it as the background,” said Fartini during an interview with Berita DIMENSi via Zoom.

After Fartini's TikTok video became viral, the product sales began to rise.

LushPiNS also had potentially entered the international market after customers from abroad requested her product to be shipped internationally.

Nayli Qistina Khalid, 22, stated that she also has experience developing her own brand and that the seller must work hard to maintain their brand in order to succeed in business.

“These days, anyone can make their own brand. The challenge they had to overcome was the ability to get people to notice the brand,” said Nayli during a WhatsApp interview with Berita DIMENSi.

Nayli also advised those who were just starting out in business to stay on track. It is normal to fail, but this does not imply that you will always be a failure. Instead, consider it as a step toward improving your company.
