SHAH ALAM - A student has taken the initiative to build an e-hailing service for students at University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam at a cheap cost to ensure it is student friendly.

Syahirah Harish, 22, a part-timer of e-hailing, has put in a lot of effort to ensure that the students at the University of Technology MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam receive the best service possible even though she is still new to e-hailing.

“I have always found it difficult to get around without my own car, and the costs charged by e-hailing firms like Grab, Maxim, and inDriver are too expensive for students like me,” said Syahirah during an interview session with Berita DIMENSi.

She claimed that trip charges are higher during peak hours than normal hours and that heading out is not worth it.

“However, having a car at such a young age has allowed me to take charge of my path by starting Grab for students as a part-time job,” she added.

The most difficult challenge for Syahirah is keeping her car in good condition so that it can be used without issue when the student's comfort is the priority.

Another student from UiTM Shah Alam, Fatin Umairah, 22, also put some effort into her e-hailing part-time work.

Fatin further noted that we commonly see on social media and in newspapers how e-hailing drivers engage in inappropriate conduct and abuse women and men.

Syahirah is working as part-time e-hailing drivers to get a side income.

“If they want to ride with me or Fatin , we will make sure they are safe and comfortable when they arrive at their destination,” said Fatin when being interviewed by Berita DIMENSi.

She also stated that she does not condone nonsensical behaviour in which a small number of students do not maintain cleanliness while in the car by leaving trash in her car.

“I merely utilize the WhatsApp application as a medium for students to book the service. To be honest, the price I am offering is not profitable, but I am still willing to keep going,” Fatin added.

Fatin says that if she does not want to work that day, she will concentrate on her classes and complete all her assignments, but it is still frustrating if she still could not manage her own time.

Even so, she still appreciates being able to take in the views of the metropolis while receiving the benefits of working as an e-hailing driver.

Both must deal with the difficulty of student adversity and from their experiences, passengers normally wait for the e-hailing driver according to the time established in the e-hailing application.

Some of the students need to find side incomes and choose to do e-hailing services.

One of the customers, Ahmad Nazrin, 22, said that the services provided by Syahirah are quite reasonable and convenient for the students. Therefore, he can save a lot of money on transportation when he wants to go out.

“I am really happy because if I utilize this service when it is needed, I can obtain it at a lower price,” said Nazrin during an interview with Berita DIMENSi.

Another customers, Muhammad Akmal, 23, is also impressed because there are still students who can provide cheap e-hailing services and are still able to divide their time between studies and work.

“It is difficult to split time since we both students and we need to maintain constant focus so that our learning process not unaffected. Not everyone can work while studying,” said Akmal during an interview with Berita DIMENSi.

Unlike Grab Car, Maxxim, and inDriver, they have their own applications and will charge a service fee to their customers for each trip completed.

Fatin says that if she and Syahirah have a day off, they both will concentrate on their classes and complete their assignments.

Both feel the pressure because it will be a problem for them if they cannot manage their time wisely.

A word of advice from them that if you want to work while studying, you will need someone you can trust to motivate and support you to not give up on whatever obstacles you face.
