EYE-CATCHING DESSERT FROM THAILAND, EXPANDED INTO MALAYSIA

PUCHONG - Two good friends ventured into the field of dessert production with originality from neighbouring countries expanded the business into their own country by introducing new variations.

The dessert from Thailand, called Luk Chup, is formed into various characters resembling vegetables, fruits, and small and cute animals. This dessert is also equipped with colours that allure the customers into buying it.

Apart from being made into a regular meal, the Luk Chup also has special orders made for their customers with delivery as a special gift during any festivities.

The special order can be any personalised shape requested by the customer, such as animals like ducks and many more.

Rosniliza Abd Rahaman and Siti Aminah Awang share their soft skills in making the kuih Luk Chup industry, which is now their source of livelihood.

"Cik Noor (Siti Aminah Awang) and I have known each other since 2012. We always exchange problems, hobbies, and interests until today,” said Rosniliza.

Rosniliza Rahaman, 38, the owner of the Luk Chup Khanom cake business, said that Luk Chup is quite difficult to find in Malaysia due to its origin in Thailand and its unique shapes.

“There are not many people who know how to make this cake. The process can be quite complicated compared to other cakes. The time taken to make it is also considerably longer,” said Rosniliza during an interview session with Berita DIMENSi.

The dessert, Luk Chup, looks attractive with a variety of colours and shapes.

Siti Aminah Awang, 34, who is also the owner of Luk Chup Khanom small enterprise, said this dessert is unique because it is made by hand without any moulding tools.

Since they opened the Luk Chup cake business in 2015, this dessert has become one of the market's most popular dessert options.

Rosniliza also said that since they opened Luk Chup small business, is just trying but has gained customers and is inspiring.

"My friend invited me to a cake-making class, and then we tried to sell it. We were able to sell our homemade cakes and get some feedback," Rosniliza added.

The Luk Chup cake that has been packed is just waiting to be sent to the customer.

Rosniliza added that she will ensure that the cakes are always well textured and if it happens otherwise, she will set them right immediately.

Luk Chup Khanom also received positive feedback from each of their customers. One of their customers said the luk chup is great because of its delicate assorted-creamy taste that guarantees another purchase.

As competition in the business seems to be getting more demanding, they take care of the taste and beauty of the cakes, believing that these are the things that customers will choose.

The price is determined by the order. Regular package bookings cost RM 35 for 50 pieces, and wedding bookings cost between RM 140 and RM 150.

These two close friends frequently broaden their business on social media in order to attract more customers.

Social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp are used for customers to place their reservations. Videos and photos of the cake advertisement were also uploaded on social sites such as Instagram and TikTok.

Siti Aminah Awang advised youngsters who are just starting a business to do their best and never let fatigue get in the way.
