KUALA LUMPUR – COVID-19 outbreak has led to more restaurant owners using Robot Waiter as their own initiative to prevent the Coronavirus from spreading any further.

By using robot waiters, they can limit the physical contact between the staffs and customers who come to dine in their restaurant.

Not only that, the restaurant's service quality can also be improved as robot waiters are efficient in time management as well as its consistency.

According to Sofia Amira, 25, one of the customers that has been subjected to treatment by robot waiters, it is exceptionally useful and innovative for the restaurants to employ robot waiters in the restaurants.

She is opposed to growing the use of robot waiters in Malaysia since doing so would be too expensive and the service charge in certain restaurants would be added as well.

“I do not like being served by robot waiters and I feel uncomfortable, especially with the loud music that comes with it,” she added in an interview with Berita DIMENSi.

However, Fatimah Arrahimah, 23, who preferred to be called Kak Mah, stated in contrast to the first interviewee.

She believed that it will reduce the waiting time and lessen the number of mistakes made by regular waiters.

“I also enjoyed being served by the robot waiters because sometimes I have unpleasant treatment or attitude by the regular waiters such as being served with the wrong order and it stressed me out,” she added.

Kak Mah, on the other hand, denied that using more robot waiters will cause any problem or unemployment rate issue in Malaysia.

She also claimed that it will be beneficial for our country’s future if more restaurants in Malaysia started to use robot waiters.

“The restaurant also needs to prepare a program that teaches regular waiters many different skills to deal with the customers,” she added.

“We should also look at the risk of hiring regular waiters as there is the possibility that they will quit the job or serves a bad quality in serving the foods to the customers,” Kak Mah added in an interview with Berita DIMENSi.

She believes that the use of robot waiters in Malaysia should be expanded, since robots have the room to improve in terms of production and efficiency, as well as product quality and consistency.

With that being said, utilising robot waiters would greatly improve customer satisfaction while it also serves as a unique attraction in the restaurant.
