News Straits Times stated that health officials have urged communities to be wary of whitening drips that contain glutathione because they have several negative side effects.

Dr. Bea Chan noted on her TikTok account, one of the reasons health officials are against using IV (intravenous) gluta for whitening is because it could result in dangerous repercussions such as severe allergic responses.

The dumping of skin-lightening product sales in the market influences our people to have the fairest skin.

Both men and women are prepared to obtain light skin quickly because of this white-washed attitude. Both are fascinated with altering their skin’s original tone.

Even more shocking, some people are determined to undertake whitening drips without a professional’s help and some folks received their vitamin C treatment in the car.

The community is advised to make an appointment with a certified nurse before receiving a whitening drip.

Skin Brightening Drips

Skin brightening drips, also known as IV glutathione have been linked to a variety of deadly skin conditions in several nations according to doctors.

According to News Straits Times, long-term overconsumption of glutathione is likely to cause serious adverse effects, including kidney function impairment.

The use of injectable skin-whitening treatments containing glutathione is a substance that is used in cancer therapy and has been opposed by health officials.

Other effects of excessive glutathione consumption can cause itching, redness, and irritation at injection sites.

Concerned about the current trend in the cosmetics and beauty industry where glutathione is a preferred component, doctors warned that unregulated use of the chemical could pose significant health risks including death.

Victims of Skin-Shaming

Skin shaming nowadays is not something new in our society even though it is an unethical and immoral action.

Nabilah Saawal, 26, a victim of skin shaming, shares her experience being judged by a promoter once.

“I recall being asked whether I had used any mercury cosmetics on my skin or if I had not properly cleansed my face since my face was breaking out, but the truth is that I have allergic skin,” Nabilah told Berita DIMENSi in an interview through Zoom.

It turns out that the promoter is solely interested in selling her products to Nabilah, not to help solve Nabilah’s skin problem.

She added that she had previously purchased a product that claimed it would whiten her skin tone but ended up making her skin dull and drier.

Nabilah admitted that her emotions were affected when she was insulted due to her skin color, and she emphasized that skin shaming should no longer be a problem nowadays.

Izzham Ibrahim, 22, a public university student, also has been criticized for his skin color since childhood. Even worse, he was once criticized by his close pals.

As a result, he always wears sunblock to prevent his skin from becoming darker despite being attacked by people who say he takes care of his skin like a woman.

“We live in an Asian country. Moreover, Malaysia is a multi-racial country, so it’s normal to have various skin colors.

"As victims, we should not be ashamed of our skin color. We need to shift our perspective and love our natural skin tone more. We can still live a healthy life with it,” he said in an interview with Berita DIMENSi.
