DEBUNKING, CLEARING MISCONCEPTIONS OF FAKE PC

There’s a lot of popular belief on making our Personal Computer (PC) run faster that we might encounter through mass media platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, and even Reddit.

In this article, the journalist have gathered three popular tips and tricks that are flagged as fake or inflicted with huge misconceptions.

Does clearing your browsing history and cache can increase website initial load?

Most internet users believe that doing this can technically increase your internet connectivity so that you see a complete webpage faster. The direct answer is that clearing your history leaves no impact, but clearing your cache is quite complicated.

Microsoft Edge also tells the user that clearing cached website data will make the web page load longer when you want to revisit them.

Azil Ahmad, a 28-year-old guy who works as a website maintainer at SoyaCincau, stated that if we frequently clean out our cache, it will impact our browsing experience.

“We do not need to clear our cached (browsing data) frequently. Instead, it’s better to practice it once a month,” he added when the writer asked for his opinion.

Azil also added that cache acts like a small file (website elements such as pictures) that our browser downloads and keeps somewhere hidden on our PC.

Then the next time we visit the same website, our browser will pick up the saved cache and then preload it. The loading page will not redownload all website elements that are needed to display a webpage, thus saving your network bandwidth.

Azil concluded, frequently clearing our saved website cache will leave little to no impact on the website loading performance. The page loading will get a little bit slower, and most of the time, it is unnoticeable.

Clearing %TEMP% folder will increase system performance.

The %TEMP% folder should not be cleared in order to improve system efficiency. The reasoning behind this is indeed very simple.

According to Data Valley Central Parts, data inside the system folder is crucial for system performance. Whenever we launch a program, Random Access Memory (RAM) will put the program code to the system disk, especially when the memory is almost full or when the program is in an inactive state.

This is called the “caching process”. The system then will pick up the pre-written code from cached data when needed.

Based on an article published by CLASSROOM, when we open a Portable Document Format (PDF) with Adobe Acrobat Pro, it uses the caching feature to increase speed load while opening a PDF file.

Adobe Acrobat Pro did not offer an interface to clear cached files for normal users. Power users can access this feature by following the tutorial stated in the article

Is it necessary to clean the system cache? The short answer is no. Windows system will automatically manage it.

Using the “optimisation software” to increase PC system performance.

Some software companies promise that their product, a tune-up utility software, can boost your PC performance. With a simple click, your PC will run faster, but there is a catch; users need to have an annual subscription to their service.

A secondary school teacher who teaches Science and Internet Communication and Technology (ICT) at Sekolah Menengah Sultan Yussuf, Batu Gajah, Maslin Kamaruddin, 33, also has the same thoughts.

She also responded that this tune-up utility software in the market is most likely a scam. Modern Windows are intelligent enough to perform routine system maintenance by default, so we do not need to worry about it. Users also have an option to do it on their own.

“Windows systems are also getting smarter, and system tune-up can be done automatically,” she said when interviewed by Berita DIMENSi through email.

From that standpoint, we can see that we do not need any tune-up utilities for our PC.
