KUALA LUMPUR – Celebrating an idol's birthday, anniversary, or achievement without their presence at the event has become a tradition for all K-pop fans around the world.

According to the article from AsiaOne, this event came from South Korea, where it allows the fans to gather at such an exciting event at a lower cost since a concert may be too expensive.

Amani Asirah Amrullah, 23, an eight-year-old fan of one of the biggest K-pop groups, EXO, recently organised a cup sleeve event named #EXhilaratiOn to celebrate two of the members' birthdays along with their 10th anniversary.

“A cup sleeve event is one of the cheapest ways to celebrate our favourite member or group where we can make new friends as well as meet internet friends,” she said through an interview with Berita DIMENSi via WhatsApp.

The highlight of the event is that attendees will get some goodies emblazoned with their favourite group’s photos, as well as games, a lucky draw and photocard trading. For goodies, it depends on the organiser itself.

“As for my event, my team and I decided to give something useful, such as pouches and top loaders, to keep their photo cards and stickers.

“To make our event more exciting, we only handed out pouches for early birds that were limited to only 55 people who followed our dress code,” Amani added.

The cost of hosting this event depends on the type and the number of goodies given, including the decorations. Of course, the bigger the amount, the merrier the event.

Amani admitted the cost of the event is quite expensive, but working in a team has made it easier.

She said that the cost for our event was around RM 1300, which is quite expensive, but that is what the team is for, so they split it to make it less expensive.

Apart from that, this event indirectly contributed to the café’s sales as the attendees were required to buy drinks to get the goodies.

This cup sleeve event is more than just fangirling. For some people, it can be a tool to boost their confidence level and help them heal themselves after studying or working on weekdays.

Aleaya Syuhada Azuan, 21, expressed her thoughts as an introverted person that this event helps her to escape from her comfort zone as she needs to socialise with people.

“I feel like I need to come out of my comfort zone sometimes and I find it comforting whenever I meet people with the same interest as mine,” said her when contacted by Berita DIMENSi via WhatsApp.

Another exciting part of the event is the colour theme. Every event has its own theme and some of the organisers set the dress code for the attendees to make it more interesting.

The fan of another well-known K-pop group, Monsta X and Victon, said that she is the most excited about choosing an outfit.

“I am the most excited when it comes to outfitting. I usually prepare an outfit a week before, and sometimes I will buy a new outfit just to match the event theme,” Aleaya stated.

She added that every K-pop fan must at least have one photocard because it is a part of the tradition among K-pop fans to bring them to special occasions for photo purposes.

Although it can be tiring for both organisers and attendees because they need to use their social battery for the whole day, but it definitely brings joy to them and gives them more experience.
