5 INSTAGRAMMABLE PLACES IN TERENGGANU

TERENGGANU: Holidays are a great time to have fun and try new things at a variety of tourist spots. Moreover, the holidays are a perfect opportunity to add aesthetic photos to your social media feeds. Agree?


The popularity of social media sites like Instagram has made Terengganu increase its attractive spots to tourists to behold. In fact, the phrase Instagramable now refers to a location with a lovely ambience or aesthetic that creates a modern vibe especially for a photophile.


Terengganu is also a home to many Instagram-worthy major attractions. From natural tourism sights that freshen the eyes to man-made tourist attractions that are no less lovely, there is something for everyone.


  1. Kuala Ibai Lagoon, Kuala Terengganu

The Floating Mosque in Kuala Ibai, namely Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque is a well-known place surrounded by a hidden gem which is 48 hectares of lagoon called Kuala Ibai Lagoon.


The Kuala Ibai Lagoon is near the city and it is a lovely place to relax and unwind because the scenery and facilities are fully complete there; there is a playground as well as an electric bicycle rental service, known as ‘Odong-Odong’ to stroll around the lagoon park.


The tourists usually picnic on a stretch of green grass beneath a shady Rhu Tree, eating cuisine purchased from stalls provided there.


2. Kopi Kudap, Tanjung Batu Rakit Village.

Considering its stunning location, this little booth is spreading like wildfire in Tiktok. It is also unique as it is situated amongst a grove of sky-high coconut palms, allowing visitors to relax while posting photos to their own Instagram pages.


Its Classic Iced Coffee ‘Kopi Peng’ is one of their best seller drinks. This cafe not only serves cheap moka pot coffee, but also appetizers like banana leaf satar, satar roll, toast, doughnut and keropok lekor.


Hours of operation: Every day except Monday (3pm - 7pm)


3. Chinatown, Kuala Terengganu.

Turtle Alley is symbolic of Terengganu and relates some of the history of the turtle's first arrival to the state (Left). A restaurant run by local Chinatown people with refurbished antique interior and retained original architecture of the building (Middle). When on vacation, the feeling of being a tourist, even in one's own nation, is constantly present. Between the alleys of its old buildings, Chinatown is a must visit destination for those who keep their social media feed aesthetically managed.


Hallways filled with images, sculptures, turtle history, antique decorations, 3D drawings and unique paintings on the walls attract tourists to take photos as memories of their precious moments in Terengganu. These peculiar passageways add to the intrigue of Kuala Terengganu Chinatown, which is known for its distinct history and antique structures.


Not only that, local people of the Chinatown have slowly improvised by renovating some of the shops and starting their own restaurant business yet still retain the culture and the antique structures of the buildings


Chinatown has now established itself as a must-see attraction in Kuala Terengganu. Similar to the historic quarters of Melaka and Penang, both are United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites.


4. Kota Putera Paragliding Park, Bubus Hill, Besut.

In Bubus Hill, near Bukit Keluang Terengganu, there is an extreme sports park called Kota Putera Paragliding Park.


What makes paragliding so intriguing is that tourists can experience a view from the sky up to 500 metres above sea level; 10 to 15 minutes for only RM150, and a GoPro camera is included so that we can shoot as many selfies as we want in the air to create memories.


For those who fear heights, they can try a giant swing for only RM5 while enjoying the ocean scene in the style of Bali. The panoramic grandeur of Keluang Hill and the huge expanse of the South China Sea may be appreciated from that vantage point.

5. Terengganu State Museum

The museum's architecture is magnificent and unusual, with elements from historic Terengganu palaces such as fountains and multi-story roofs.


Visitors can meander through the museum's garden area, which is beautifully planted with lovely landscapes, while gaining knowledge about Terengganu's maritime history, marine galleries, and tele houses that were formerly lived by King Mongkut during his visit in 1908.


To visit, tourists have to pay RM 5 for Malaysian adults, RM 2 for Children, RM 1 for students in uniform, meanwhile RM 15 for Non-Citizen adults and RM 10 for children.


Hours of operation: Every day (9am - 5pm) Friday (9am - 12 noon and 3pm - 5pm)
