Despite the COVID-19 outbreak and the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), RIUH hosted the Tiffin Ber-RIUH Raya event in conjunction with Tiffin on May 1 and May 2. The event was hosted at Sentul Depot, Kuala Lumpur with tight Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place and a limited number of visitors to ensure social distance.

Mafidz, Mai, Ask Dance Company, Merakki, Ushera, and Colour of Voices were among the line-ups during the Tiffin Ber-RIUH Raya event. It was a two-day event with live performances running from 2.00PM until 10.00PM.

Berita DIMENSi interviewed a few of the live performance artists to share their experience performing at RIUH and the differences between performing during the pandemic and before the COVID-19 existed. They also shared their hope for their music in the future.

After almost 10 months of not performing, Mafidz finally got the chance to perform at Tiffin Ber-RIUH Raya as their first public performance since the pandemic started.

The performance took place during Ramadan, and it was a completely unique and different experience for Mafidz, who took the stage at 2.00PM on the second day of the event. It was also the first time they performed with Abbas, Mafidz's newest member and drummer. The energy was unlike anything they had ever felt before.

One of the challenges was Mafidz could not see the crowd's reactions, whether they were singing along, enjoying the performance, or even smiling, due to stringent SOPs, being socially separated, and wearing a mask.

“Nonetheless, we are very much excited for being able to perform on stage again, having fun with our bandmates and being able to entertain those who have come over to watch us live. You can watch our Tiffin Ber-Riuh Raya vlog on Youtube, Mafidz Official.

“Our hopes for music are also closely related to the current world situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When the situation has improved, we hope to be able to complete the recording of our second album and the enthusiasm and support from music listeners will be stronger than before,” says Mafidz when contacted by Berita DIMENSi via Instagram.

Mai is a 20-year-old singer and a fine art student. Mai felt delighted to perform at the event because she had made it a goal to sing at RIUH the last time she visited RIUH Rhapsody. After a long break, it was her first live performance.

“Performing at RIUH felt differently because I remember enjoying every moment of it as I knew it was not going to last long.

“Of course, I have had the same feeling with my other performances, but with the current situation, I realised I had to start enjoying the little things more.

“I am hoping I get the chance to experiment with different genres because there has not been one that stuck to me yet, and I hope to express myself enough in my music that I inspire others to express themselves too.

“I think it is quite crucial these days for one to express themselves, and to do so we have to validate our feelings and thoughts, be it with music, art or anything really!” Mai said when contacted by Berita DIMENSi via her Instagram.
