Disney's latest animation movie ‘Raya and The Last Dragon’ had shocked the viewer especially from Southeast Asian with the movie concept that represents the culture in the region.

It is the first Southeast Asian princess to be featured in an animated film. All the characters, backdrop and story tales in the movie are designed to fit with Southeast Asian culture.

In an interview with Muhammad Zulikbar Zulkarnain, 25, said that when he watched the movie, he felt like he was part of that movie especially with the food, the name of the character and character’s costume.

“I was so excited since the day Disney released the teaser of this movie because it is a movie that represents our culture to the world. Now people can see how unique and beautiful our culture is,” he said in an interview via WhatsApp with Berita DIMENSi.

Not only that, Disney also has collaborated with Malaysian famous producer and writer, Adele Lim and Qui Nguyen, the Vietnamese playwright and author in the film making.

This collaboration between Disney and Asian filmmakers has made the audience from Asia feel proud and impressed with their people.

Some backdrops in the movie have impacted Southeast Asian and make them feel close to the movie.

“There are the scene where we can see a lady painting batik and the scenes where some random guys play with Wayang Kulit that really touches me when all that scenery has rarely been seen these days,” Zul added.

According to Zul, this tradition needs to be preserved by the Southeast Asian so that the younger generation can still watch and learn about their ancestors tradition.

“It is also an honor to me as a Southeast Asian for Disney to publish a movie that looks like us. I hope that in the future there will be more people or companies that will introduce my culture to the eyes of the world,” he added.

This movie has encouraged Southeast Asian to keep on promoting their culture to the world and to produce more people who are creative in animation and multimedia to be successful like Adele Lim
