KAJANG: Despite garnering the attention of many moviegoers, Marvel’s “Eternals” still managed to make room for doubt among viewers on whether the movie is truly worth the hype.

According to Insider, Disney (DIS) reported that the film has already grossed $161 million worldwide and $71 million in ticket sales on its domestic premiere, making it the fourth most successful opening of the pandemic film series.

In spite of its huge debut in the Marvel Universe, the film surprisingly earned the lowest rating amongst other Marvel movies that came before it causing the audience to question if it was worth the hype.

Youtuber and movie reviewer, who goes by the name of Miharu Kenshin on Youtube says, even though the film lacks certain parts and scenes, she enjoyed watching the new series nevertheless.

“For me, the film was exciting and entertaining but it’s not perfect compared to other Marvel’s series. It has too much information to process, making people confused and lose track of the movie.”

Marvel’s Studio Eternals sparked a heated controversy and debate as it received the lowest rating among Marvel's productions.

“But regardless, I think the film was worth it, and it deserves the hype they got. The director, Chloe Zhao, did a great job by bringing a new wave into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“If she cuts certain parts and adds more in the sequel, I think it would be perfect and perhaps will receive a higher review,” she said when contacted by Dimensi through Email.

Miharu also added that as a moviegoer herself, she was highly impressed with the film cinematography as they did an excellent work in it and respected the crew's hard work and effort they put into just for the film.

While some of the audiences enjoyed watching the film, it’s a different story for some of the die-hard fans of Marvel as they can’t hide their disappointment since they have high expectations of the film from the start.

Siti Fatimah Az Zahra Mohamad Ziyad, 22, a big fan of the Marvel series said, she was disappointed and had a mixed opinion on the film as she thought it would be different from the past Marvel production, but somehow it doesn't live up to the hype and expectations.

“I was initially excited for Eternals, but it turned out to be a let-down. I was expecting more because the past Marvel movies were incredible and good, but I guess I was expecting too much this time.

“No doubt, having ten superheroes in a film is something new and fresh to see, but throughout the two hours and 35 minutes runtime, I can notice the struggles to juggle different character storylines and how the story was too cramped,” said Zahra during the interview via Google Meet.

Zahra also said the film felt too rushed, and there were a lot of plots that needed to be unpacked as it made the storyline look messy and incomplete.

“It feels like the film lacked time to incorporate everything they intended to put into it. Even though the runtime for the film is relatively longer than the other movies, I still felt something was missing and lacking in the storyline.

“Regardless, I would say it is an okay movie, but as for me, I don’t think this movie is worth my money and time. However, I would suggest you watch the movie itself because I believe many people, on the other hand, love it. It’s a matter of opinion, after all,” she said.

After all, movies or films, like other kinds of art, are subjective, and it all comes down to personal taste. Either earning the lowest or highest rating doesn’t matter anyway as long as we enjoy and love watching it.
