KUCHING - Passion in art led to willingness to pursue more about art where a great masterpiece of artwork particularly in the form of human portraits has been produced by a local talent.

Mohd Sahril Rostani, 25, a talented and creative person, produces a number of portrait artworks.

He sells his artwork to the public and there are also people who request him to draw portraits and photos of their family, or themselves.

Sahril, who is from Simunjan, Sarawak, said his passion in art has increased since primary school after he participated in drawing competitions at school level.

“My journey into the field of art began since I was in primary school and I decided to pursue my study into the field of art at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

“After graduating, I kept my passion in art by selling artworks and drawing portraits,” said Sahril during an interview session with Berita DIMENSi via Facebook Messenger.

There must be a story or meaning behind every artwork that he produces as we know that artists or painters express themselves or thoughts through their artworks.

“Usually, the inspiration for my artwork comes from my own life experiences. In addition, my work serves more as a dedication to the people who produce movies, movie fans, and aesthetics lovers,” Sahril added.

Every piece of artworks that he produced has its own difficulties as it is not that easy to produce great artworks in a long period of time.

“It takes me between 10 and 20 hours to complete each of my artworks depending on the techniques and the ideas that are used, '' said Sahril.

The most difficult art that he has to produce is the drawing of Ratu Kidul as this drawing needs to use different types of art mediums and on A1 size of boxboard.

The hardest artwork Sahril has ever completed is drawing the picture of Ratu Kidul.

“Arts in Malaysia are well acknowledged, but we still need to teach the young generations to appreciate arts and to explore more about arts as we need arts in our daily lives,” said Sahril.

Ryan Maxcolin, 22, a delivery rider is one of Sahril's artwork buyers as he is attracted to Sahril’s artworks.

According to Ryan, he was attracted and satisfied with the artwork that he bought.

“I am really satisfied with Sahril’s artwork as his artwork is great and simple but with meaning as he is creative,” said Ryan when contacted by Berita DIMENSi through Facebook Messenger.

Acknowledgment of art to the community, especially the younger generation is very important so that they can appreciate the works of art.
