The principal of SMK Taman Jasmin 2, Noor Lailah Muhammad Zain, 53, said that some people may not have had the opportunity to learn in higher education or may be unsure of the process of applying to and attending a college or university.

"Lack of exposure may make them feel more comfortable and confident about starting work immediately, or they may not be aware of the options available for further education.

"Aside from that, financial issues may influence the decision of SPM graduates to start working to support themselves or their families, the cost of education, or a lack of financial resources to continue studying," she added.

In contrast, Nurull Zurain Natasya, 18, who has been working since she graduated high school, stated that she prefers working over studying in order to gain experience and access to better employment opportunities in the future.

“For the first time in my life, I was able to support myself financially, and chose not to further my education in order to put my newly acquired skills to use in the workforce.

"Thus, it is possible that my current position will provide opportunities for promotion as I age," she added.
