KUALA LUMPUR World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) has become one of the centres for the distribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine to recipients. The recipients shared the excitement and experience of receiving the first dose at WTCKL.

Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation as Coordinating Minister of the National COVID-19 Immunization Program (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin said the administration of this vaccine is done voluntarily — using the concept of first come, first serve — and is open to citizens residing in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur only.

Masyithah Md Saiful, 22, an AstraZeneca vaccine recipient recounted her exciting experience.

“I was very excited because after a year of waiting, I finally managed to book a slot to be vaccinated and I was the first person in the family to be vaccinated.

“The first thing that crossed my mind in terms of getting vaccinated was that I wanted my life back to normal. I think if I start taking the vaccine and encourage others to take the vaccine, surely Malaysia will quickly achieve herd immunity.

“By taking the vaccine, I was able to reduce the risk to dangerous levels when infected with COVID-19,” says Masyithah through an interview by Berita DIMENSi via WhatsApp.

However, there are some preparations done by the vaccine recipient before getting the vaccine. This is to avoid severe or debilitating side effects.

“After booking a slot, I started looking for reference material about the AstraZeneca vaccine on the qualifications for individuals who could receive this vaccine and started to ask the doctor if I was eligible to receive this vaccine.

“I also made sure that I am healthy before the day of vaccination,” Masyithah added.

Recipients were also satisfied with the process when taking the vaccine at WTCKL. Although it was crowded with many people, the present health workers managed to make the process go smoothly.

Masyithah stated that upon reaching WTCKL, the situation outside was very crowded with people, it was difficult to maintain a distance of one meter as many arrived early before the scheduled time.

“However, the current process in the WTCKL building runs smoothly and in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that has been set. Each recipient must scan the QR code before entering the building.

“I was very satisfied with the explanation given by the health worker and for successfully managing the current situation even though it was crowded inside,” says Masyithah.

Farhat Zaifuddin, 22, an AstraZeneca vaccine recipient, shared his experience of taking vaccines at WTCKL.

“I am excited and happy because my name was chosen among millions of people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. In addition, I can give awareness to any anti-vaccine groups out there who are less confident about the safety of vaccination so that they will also take the vaccine.

“What is more exciting is that the process of getting the vaccine is very easy and fast. We just need to do the things that are instructed calmly and no time is wasted during the process at WTCKL,” says Farhat through an interview by Berita DIMENSi via WhatsApp.

Farhat also stated that he is very satisfied with the service and friendly attitude shown by the staff at the vaccination centre. The police also managed to control the one meter distance for each recipient who is waiting to be vaccinated.

“In conclusion, it was smooth and well organized. Great job and kudos for each party involved and for the government’s efforts in providing vaccines,” Farhat added.
