Having a healthy and flawless face is everyone’s dream. Not many people know that facial skin has different types and the self care also differs according to the individual.

Knowing the type of facial skin is important to ensure that everyone has basic knowledge of their own facial care and can choose the right product for their skin to maintain good skin.

Nurul Atiqah Jasni, 23, Future Sales Director of Mary Kay Malaysia Singapore, shared that there are four types of facial skin that we should all recognize. The first is dry skin, the second is oily skin, the third is combination skin, and the fourth is sensitive skin.

To assess whether our skin is normal or sensitive, check for moist skin, healthy pores that are not blocked, and a lack of redness and irritation. Dry skin creates dull, non-greasy skin, expression lines around the eyes and lips, and rough, scaly skin.

"Oily skin is easier to detect since the skin of individuals with this skin type will appear oily and glossy upon awakening, their pores will be obvious and clogged and prone to acne.

“The characteristics of combination skin as follows as their face will be oily, especially around the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, excluding the cheeks, which will be oil-free,” she explained in the interview to Berita Dimensi via Instagram.

She also gave a very clear description of the simple steps that need to be done such as the ‘30 minute blank face’ technique and oil paper as well as tissues to identify the type of facial skin.

Basically, just leave the clean face untouched with hands for 30 minutes, and make sure our hands are clean before touching the face so that we will be able to determine the type of facial skin based on observations on oil paper and tissue.

Muhammad Zhafir, 21, Retail Supervisor at Watson also shared his thoughts on products for oily skin that contain salicylic acid, niacinamide, and zinc.

"Salicylic Acid is a BHA that is frequently recommended by dermatologists to treat acne and for oily skin since it has a higher molecular content than other substances but not for dry skin, whereas ceramide is great for dry skin but not for oily skin," he explained when contacted by Berita Dimensi via WhatsApp.

To avoid any undesired incidences on the facial skin, everyone should be familiar with the five essential skincare products, which are cleanser, exfoliator at least twice a week, toner, moisturizer, and sun protection.
