With Malaysia producing world-class two-wheel motorsports athletes in the likes of Hafizh Syahrin and Zulfahmi Khairuddin, public attention in the world of motorsports has been on a steady rise.

The roots of motorsports in Malaysia started from the early days of Batu Tiga Circuit Shah Alam, where MotoGP and regional formula racing took place.

The need for speed of Malaysians was then fulfilled when the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), the home for high octane adrenaline, was built in 1999.

Now, as interest in motorsports sees a renewal, many grassroots level events with aims to produce the next Malaysian rider in the high octane World Championships are popping up like mushrooms after the rain.

One of the prominent and sought-after grassroots events is the FIM MiniGP Malaysia Series (160cc) and SIC Ohvale Junior Championship (110cc) held in conjunction with the two-wheel governing body, Federale Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and SIC with the aim to produce another world-class Malaysian motorsport talent.

At these events, riders as young as eight years old blast around the Sepang International Kart Circuit (SIKC) on an Italian-built Ohvale GP-0 bike.

Under the watchful eyes of Zulfahmi Khairuddin and his team, ZK Racing, these young riders benefit from having coaching in racing and the overall atmosphere of the racing paddock.

Youngsters from the FIM MiniGP Malaysia Championship also are allowed a career progression where the top three riders will have the chance to compete at the FIM MiniGP World Championship held in Valencia, Spain.
