SHAH ALAM: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Indonesia, work together to develop entrepreneurship and diversity of culture among students through the entrepreneurship and cultural exchange programme last December.

The programme that took place at Pusat Pengurusan Pusanika UKM, involved students from USK and UKM itself.

Chairman of Pusat Pembangunan Keusahawan dan EKS (CESMED) Buddies UKM, Muhammad Afif Mohd Yusof, said that it becomes a platform for both sides to get to know about the uniqueness of Malaysian and Indonesian cultures.

"Lecturers from Malaysia and Indonesia share their knowledge and experience in guiding students towards the world of entrepreneurs who thrived with the passage of time without having to leave their cultural legacy.

"The goal of this event is to create a comprehensive network of cooperation between two countries with numerous cultural components that must be brought to the public's attention," said Afif.

Alumni from both universities who were once affected by salaried work are now successful in running their own businesses and are able to determine the success they really want in life.

Several activities were carried out to give exposure to students.

"In addition, the show  of traditional Malaysian clothing to students from both sides of the country is a sign of pride and uniqueness with the cultural diversity here.

"UKM alumni, Aidil Idzham Riza, who has a biscuit business, and USK alumni, Ridha Sahputra, who runs a tourism firm, share their success by establishing their own businesses," he added.

According to Deputy Program Head, Aida Irdina Shamsul Bahrin, 15 students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, USK from year one to year  three are involved.

"The most interesting thing about this programme is that the relationships built throughout the programme are really close, and we are also planning to have a return visit to Indonesia.

"In my opinion, we can understand each other's culture more deeply including business aspects of both sides, especially how to maintain the product quality, " she said.
