SHAH ALAM: The influx of cars on the roads has caused delays and frustration for students and staff of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam especially during peak hours and convocation events.

Despite the fact that numerous attempts have been made, this road congestion problem is still continuously occurring.

Deputy Superintendent Auxiliary Police of UiTM, Suria Hj Kamis, stated that measures are being taken to address the traffic issues, including encouraging the use of alternative modes of transportation and implementing a shuttle service to off-campus parking areas.

“Heavy traffic around the university can be caused by various factors such as a large number of students and staff driving to and from the university, especially at peak hours like the start and at the end of classes or after work shifts,” he said.

Aliff Eirfan Ayup, 22, said UiTM needs an official declaration prohibiting students who live on campus from bringing their own vehicle to campus.

“UiTM needs to provide a comprehensive transportation plan that can work with local authorities and transportation agencies to develop a comprehensive plan to improve traffic flow around campus,” he said.

Nurul Afiqah Rahimi, 22, also said that lecturers need to play an important role to reduce the heavy traffic and hoping the lecturers will be more understanding and take another solution such as classes online whenever an event is occuring.

“Encouraging the use of telecommuting while also utilizing alternatives like online learning to limit the number of vehicles on the road at peak hours, especially during convocation,” she said.

Siti Khadijah Junoh Ismail, 22, said UiTM should provide parking spaces that are concentrated in one area to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

“I think they should increase the availability of parking, building additional parking structures or implementing a shuttle service to off-campus parking areas,” said Khadijah.

Mirza Amirah Mohammad Hafizan, 20, voices out to the Deputy Superintendent Auxiliary Police UiTM Shah Alam to open alternative routes in a way to avoid congestion especially at peak hours.

“Opening the lane can reduce traffic congestion, especially during convocation and when students' peak time return from class,” she said.

She hopes that the measures they are taking will serve as a model for other universities to follow in addressing these challenges.

The traffic congestion issue has been occurring for a long time in UiTM Shah Alam and needs to be taken seriously since the road congestion not only affects the students but all the staff and other users.

Deputy Superintendent Auxiliary Police must organize the heavy traffic issue to increase the road quality in UiTM Shah Alam.
