My first solo game project, a 2D puzzle exploration game about the mysteries of an ancient civilisation.
As the first game I designed myself, this project taught me the most about the game development pipeline, from iterative prototyping and asset creation to playtesting and polish.
Shaders caused many issues in the later stages of the project, but I managed to find workarounds.
I also collaborated with a Music student (Emily Tran) to add audio, which gave me valuable experience and the game extra depth. Moreover, researching the importance of accessibility features for this project helped shape the hint systems and fonts.
Further details can be found in my development blog below.
With hindsight, I can still see many aspects to improve, which is partly why I decided to remake the game in my final year of university. In particular, I felt the puzzle design and tutorials were too overwhelming, while the gameplay itself felt too slow and unrewarding.
