In the early days, the powder was stored in wooden barrels of various sizes, which people carried in smaller leather bags. Later, they were sold in smaller and flatter boxes of paper, copper or iron. Very rarely, one or two charge ammunition is also packed in cap tin size small cylindrical tins. They were also called 'traveling powder tin'. It was a favorite among travelling traders and gunmen, because it was small enough to fit in a pocket, and because of its airtight closure, it did not damp even when dropped into water.
