Virtual preceptorships are being made available to increase access to clinical training, particularly in underserved or remote areas. They provide flexibility for learners in rural and remote communities by reducing scheduling and travel barriers.
Physicians and nurse practitioners
Live outside the lower mainland (West Vancouver to Abbotsford)
Are more than one hour’s drive/75km from the nearest BCCSU-approved preceptor
Complete the online virtual preceptorship request form
If approved, they will be connected with a preceptor offering virtual preceptorships. Virtual POATSP preceptorships may be scheduled over several days or weeks to complete the required eight hours.
Provide care in BC
Offer video-based virtual care in reasonable blocks of time to support POATSP learners, or have the ability for the learner to virtually join office-based patient visits
